D200 issues! alarm bells ringing!

I received my fancy D200 camera after winning at at ebay from the Jessops ebay shop (user: clear-r-gear) but it does not seem to be in great working order at all for a "refurbished" camera!

The first few photos I took it gave several errors and strange looking photo's that you can see at these links...

Now today the camera just froze up completely, unable to take any photos, unable to turn the camera on or off and when I disconnected the battery and put it back in again, there is no display or anything even after turning the camera on and off!!! :thumbsdown::shrug:

How do I go about getting this camera fixed under it's warranty? Do I go into a Jessops retailer with the receipt and camera etc?

I really need a camera for some upcoming work so if it is sent off to get fixed will a replacement be given to me!?!?

I'm pretty sure you're covered somewhere, as they've sold you defective goods. Best bet would be to contact them no later than now and explain the problem.

Someone I know had a similar problem with a Minolta and it turned out to be a faulty sensor.
 
:eek: whooaaaa, forget warranty from Nikon, Jessops clearance should take that back, its not fit for use. I did once get a bright pink image off my d200 when shooting into the sun, but the next shot the camera stopped altogether.... that was when I discovered that the battery really does 'die' very quickly when near the end of its charge. A freshly charged battery and all was well.
As Joe says, check the auction listing, there should be returns details on there.

then today... problems. I have put the battery on charge as advised by some people, even if it starts to work again, do you think this camera can be trusted after those images that came up?
 
If you mail Clear-r-Gear they are really helpful. I too brought from them and had to return my D80 as there were focusing problems. They mailed back immediately and offered a replacement which came the following day. This one works great.

I emailed them just over an hour ago, still waiting for a response. Going to go to my local jessops soon and have a chat with them, see if they can get in contact with the head office or whatever and sort something out.
 
After that short charge the camera worked again ( for a short while ) where I put the camera on fast continous shoot mode on jpg basic and fired off 70 shots, 2 of which had errors... see below...

Yep, its got some kind of power feed issue, maybe a short circuit or something, possibly even a faulty battery, but definately get it back to them, as you have only just bought it. In other circumstances I would suggest trying a brand new battery first, but not on a new purchase, it's Clear r gears responsibility to solve the problem, and it does sound like they are pretty fair from jemini's post.
 
The first tmie I used mine in 5fps mode, I was confused when I moved the switch to OFF and the top LCD remained on. After a few times of this happening I realised that the top LCD remained on while it was writing all the data to the CF. I found that if I waited for the green light to out on the back of the body, it switched off immediately. You might even find that if you switch it to OFF before the light goes out, then wait for the light to go out, the top LCD will turn off at the same time. I don't remember trying this though.

There is probably something in the manual advising aginst turning the camera off while the light is green.

re the strange pictures youre getting - give it back!
 
Goods news...

Went to my local Jessops and showed them the pictures in this thread which I printed out and they took a D200 out of the display shelf, put it in a box and swopped it then and there for me.

Let's hope this one is in better working order :eek:
