Had a few too many near misses now so looking to get something just in case so at least I've got proof.

Can anyone recommend a helmet or bike cam? I'm not looking to spend too much, just something which is small, easy to setup, easy to start recording each time and can last for at least 30 mins before charging. If it comes with discreet mounts all the better.

Cheers!

I used to use a gopro. One of the many cheap gopro knock offs should do the job.

Cheers, I'll have a look. Small and basic is all I'm after.

I wouldn't recommend a helmet cam unless your helmet is specifically designed to have one fitted. Who knows what injuries you might sustain in the event of a crash ... don't forget Michael Schumacher :(

Yes, I know, lots of people wear them just like they do for skiing. You only have to be unlucky once.

He hit his head on a rock, and there is no record of a camera being involved. If Hit by a car theres more to worry about than landing directly on the top of your head.

I actually contacted Chilli about their cameras. The one I link to is designed for close pass evidence - i.e. it's adequate resolution for evidence. There's a higher res one that's for "capturing your adventures". At a higher cost, obvs.

There's also an adapter for about a fiver that means you can mount this camera to a GoPro compatible mount in case you want to mount it on the bars.

Sorry, my memory may be faulty on this but I'm fairly certain (?) that the incident report published by the EU safety executive a few months after the accident made a reference to him having a camera mounted on his helmet. It was the only official report circulated after the accident in deference to the wishes of the family. I don't have access to reports like that anymore so can't check and if I'm wrong I apologise.

Thanks, appreciate all the feedback. I've ended up getting a Mobius Maxi 4k and the weatherproof case. I know of it from the car dash cam arena. It's excellent quality for the price and small. Plus the low flat profile will allow me to velcro it onto the top of my helmet and be reasonably flush. I'll just a tie wrap to make it extra secure.

I'll throw up some footage once I get it.

Just received my lights today and my God they are bright. Will need to aim down a little or I'll dazzle people.

Daylight running lights are awesome but I feel a bit self conscious using them.

Aye, it's only if it's heavy overcast or raining. Although had a car door open on me this morning, fortunately just missed as I served and she gave a tiny facial expression of guilt, but no sorry. Maybe I should run the lights at all times, the strobe mode may have reflected off her mirror or car body and caught her eye.

Yes. On the downside strobes draw a lot of attention to you. On the upside they draw a lot of attention to you :)

They are a good idea on bikes, but must adjusted so they don't shine direct in the face of oncoming traffic? Seen many that make me squint as we approach each other, not good on narrow roads, worse for me since my wee buggy is quite low to the ground.
