Just got back from a trip to London and popped in to see a couple of shows.

Deutsche Börse Photography at The Photographers' Gallery

A huge variety of spectacular work. Dana Lixenberg and Awoiska van der Molen's works were both stunning & moving - probably regardless of whether you normally like portraiture or landscapes. Cheap to attend, free before Midday. v/d Molen's prints are extraordinary, they show real mastery of the craft of printing.

Sony World Photography awards (& Martin Parr special exhibition) at Somerset House

A bit more expensive, much bigger and a rather more mixed bag. It's interesting to compare the landscapes of the overall winner Frederik Buyckx with those of Awoiska van der Molen's. Still definitely worth seeing. Finishes this weekend, I think.

Wolfgang Tillmans at Tate Modern

I'm glad I was taken by a friend with membership & didn't have to pay to get in. There are a few gems but there's an awful lot of filler. I could be ruder but that would probably just expose my lack of understanding of a fair swathe of contemporary art photography.

The Radical Eye at Tate Modern

Elton John's collection of modernist photography. It's probably a 'must-see' show - it's got something from everyone one from Weston to Lange to Penn to Man Ray. There's so much, though, that it's easy to get overwhelmed by Elton's magpie tendencies and gloss over the really good stuff. Again, finishes soon.
