CS5 type not showing

I wonder whether anyone has any ideas...

CS5, Windows XP...

When I select the type tool and type on an image in the normal way, it creates the layer as normal and the layer is named with whatever I have typed. But what I have typed is not visible, and I can't highlight it.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Is it very small/larger than print box/same colour as background/symbols that are not included in type face you have chosen ?

These are all reasons I have come across for print not showing

Not especially small or large type, and not the same colour. These are the things that even I thought of

Check the blending mode of the text layer fill opacity is not set to 0

Well, I checked and it was set to 100...

But it's suddenly started working again, I don't know why but I'm not sure that I care either
