After opening the image after raw processing, if I then decide to use the cropping tool no matter how big or small a crop I am left with a tiny square, more like a dot in the centre of the screen

I suspect I have inadvertently altered some setting due to using two screens.

Check the pixel/cm/in dimensions and the dpi in the toolbar above the image.

Try hitting front image or clear on the top toolbar (when the crop tool is selected) front image keeps the size/dimensions of the original, clear means your cutting down the original, as DemiLion says it sounds like you have a very small size put into the boxes at the top.

Yes, it's the combination of those three numbers. Delete the dpi number to give you a crop ratio of the other x/y dimensions. Delete all three numbers to give yourself a freehand crop tool.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I have hit the clear box and it is now back to normal:)

It was set to 1 pixel:bonk:

In future must make sure of where the cursor is on any of the two screens before I hit the keyboard :bonk:

I wouldn't beat yourself up about it - anyone who's ever used photoshop has done something very similar.

I had my white set to medium grey for masking, and spent ages (a couple of weeks) wondering why I couldn't 'include' any more!! :D
