Morning, my best mate gave me his old mac g4, with Photoshop CS4.
last night I uploaded the canon software so the camera can talk to the new mac opened photoshop and..... there were no pics in it.

The only way I could see pics was to drag one into it do it and then work on it.

I only put the basic canon 500d software on as it only has a 80g H/D, it also would not recognise canon raw files, should I put canon raw software on it?

I may be being a bit thick but I stopped `playing` at 2230 when my brain hurt and was up at 0430(ish)

Thanks and sorry if this has been covered in depth elsewere.

Cheers
Ray

Not sure exactly what your trying to achieve but the way I do it is I use canon eos utility to transfer the inches from camera to pc.
I then go into PhotoShop and do file open from the folder eos utility sent them too.
I'm not aware of canon software automatically opening images in photoshop.

As for say file recognition, if you mean the file doesn't have a thumbnail of the image that is because no computer understands raw files without the help of additional software.
In photoshop when you click on a raw file it should show you a preview of the image.

Worth checking that Adobe camera raw is up to date also, in case the current version doesn't support your 500d.
Hope this helps

You could try a card reader rather than a direct camera/comp wire connection. That way Photoshop will see the files directly from the card rather than via Canon software.

You will need to download a later version of Camera raw (the latest 5.x release) will be compatible with CS4 and supports your camera (take a look at the sticky thread at the top of this forum).

The raw files appear on the screen in canon utility, but not in cs4.
will upload the canon stuff tonight.
Thanks
