Hi everyone
I wonder if anyone can throw any light on to why my Photoshop CS2 has suddenly decided not to open my RAW files? It was doing it without any problems, up until yesterday! The only thing that has changed since then was that my computer installed an Adobe reader update. Surely that can't have caused it??????

Do you think I should do an uninstall/ re-install? I tried doing a "repair" through the uninstall programme, but that didn't help.

Thanks

Check that your file associations have not changed since installing Acrobat.

If using Windows open a file browser window (or just open up internet exporer and type c: in the address bar) .

Click Tools- folder options and the File Types tag

This shows the program that opens with each kind of file

Also, try loading up Adobe Bridge, browsing to a folder you know has some RAW files in, and double clicking on one of them. Adobe Bridge overrules the system file associations and uses its own software (namely CS2) to open he photos.

It turns out, my problem has arisen because my copy of CS2 was not an "official" one (I bought it off ebay  ) and the update "switched off" the ability to deal with RAW. Everything else still works fine. My other half, (who understands technology) showed me how to check this by installing the CS2 disc on another computer, installing all the updates exept the one for Photoshop, and then opening a RAW file; this worked fine. Updating the bridge worked ok, it was just photoshop itself, so if anyone out there also bought a copy off ebay.........be warned........don't install updates without first doing a recovery point thingy, so you can revert if necessary.

I have now uninstalled evrerything, as I'm scared it might have affected something else as yet undiscovered! I'm back to using Elements 4; a genuine version!!!

I'm going to buy CS2 upgrade and get a license code for Photoshop 7 from a friend. Anybody know the cheapest place to buy the upgrade?

Probably not Ebay  - try www.dabs.com
