For the past few months I have been getting to grips with
Paint shop pro XI .2 ( cost me a tenner + P&P off scabay)
I think I have just about figuered it out now and know what to use and when.
Thats not to say that I get it right but I know what the tools do and where they are.
listening to most of youy guys that have CS2 I seem to have a "few bits missing" and that is its lacking in some areas (PSP)
Is it really worth the 200odd squids?
I can't justify the price of the new CS3 so thats out!
I am thinking of changing but if CS2 is not to distant from PSP XI then is it really worth spending out on?
Thanks in advance

At the end of the day Photoshop is the king of PP software. It's the one every other player out there trys to emulate. I wouldn't hesitiate to buy it again. It's not cheap that's true but the best never is :)

Good question! :)

I have CS2, PSP X, PSP7, several earlier versions of PSP, as well as Corel Paint. I do nearly all my work with PSP7 as it's the one I'm most familiar with. The truth is any of these packages are more than capable of doing anything that most photographers would ever want to do. I'd say learn a package and stick with it, there's nothing to be gained by swapping and changing in the early stages, in fact it's very confusing. If you feel you want to change later on it will be a lot easier with the experience of one well learned editing package behind you.

The thing with Photoshop is it was first on the scene and as it has developed it's become pretty well the industry standard to the extent that the word 'Photoshop' has now become synonymous with any photo editing. People say "It's been Photoshopped' regardless of which image editor was used. I've never been a huge lover of Photoshop, it's very heavy on system resources, and I hate the way the tool menus take up half the workspace.

When I use CS2 it's usually to use Genuine Fractals or some other plugin which is only available for Photoshop - which is a big plus point for it.

Is it worth the money? Absolutely! It's a very impressive piece of software, but the average user, and a great many pros will never use a fraction of what it's actually capable of, and in truth, simply don't need it.

I wonder how many users of CS2 have pucka copies anyway, there must be more knocked off copies about than genuine ones, but the average user would be far better off spending that sort of dosh on some kit. ;)

Dodgy copies of Photoshop CT? surely not

Yeah I'll take one. I can run my £1.50 copy of Office 2007 on it

LOL.. yep.. even Windoze I believe. :D Windows Vista anybody? - 64 bit version- 3 quid to you sah!

I'll take two :D

Re CS2 I like it but like CT says it's an absolute resource hog. I've got PSP9 I think it is and as I've got a new windows install here anyway I was thinking about firing it up again.

Thats interesting guys! Thanks, I didn't realised that PSP had a following!
I guess I will stick to PSP XI for awhile longer then, If the price on CS2 drops dramatically as CS3 becomes readilly available I may well reconcider but for now PSP it is.

I use gimp and its really quite good. Windows version lacks a bit of detail but thats the windows user losers :D

cinepaint is good too. Can work in 32 bit in cinepaint.

A used to have Paint shop 7 but lost the disk when we moved and i aint paying
for the newer versions as its sooooo pricey

The snag with PSP is that it's now been taken over by Corel and they have a bad rep for trashing acquired programmes in favour of their own software.

They took over with PSP X and it's OK, although starting to look a bit busy -Icon City -a bit like their Corel Paint programmes. They've certainly retained the best so far of earlier PSP versions while adding their own features. I haven't seen version X1.

PSP has always been one of the better options out there so let's hope they don't spoil it.

I suspect that's maybe not an entirely official version ;)

Oh I am surprised to hear you say that as it does say in the ad that its 100%
