Do many people use Crumpler bags? Whats the general opinion on them? Need to order my new bag this weekend ready to take away and still cannot make my mind up... I think ive narrowed it down to the Kata 3N1-30 or the Crumpler Messenger Boy Full Photo...

It needs to hold:

50D + BG-E2N Grip
100-400 L fitted
24-105 L
17-40 L
50

And the usual stuff like rocket blowers, lens hoods, filters etc. Would be good if the gorillapod would fit in too...

Would both these bags fit all the above? And are there any others ive overlooked. Must be a backpack sort.

Thanks.

I use a Messenger Boy and couldn't be happier. I've travelled around quite a bit with it, in sunshine and rain, and it does its job very well.

I've heard people complain about them being over-padded or having noisy velcro - but hey, I don't mind having some padding on my camera bag.

Ive got a brians hot tub, which is HUGE, i recon you could easily fit all your gear into it, ive certainly had this lot in mine...

Eos5
20D with 70-200 fitted
85mm
50mm
18-50mm
2x flash guns
lunch
general bits and bobs

it seems well made and has been out and about on rally stages with me, i also like the fact that if its on my back you cant unzip it!

ive also got a small shoulder bag and thats stood up to some abuse as well :)

Yeh ive heard its a bit of a monster! Maybe too big for my gear though? Don't suppose youve any pictures have you?

I use a combination - a Lowepro Fastpack 250 for lugging all my kit around in and a Crumpler Messenger Boy 5500 when I'm just taking the body plus one or two lenses out for the day.

The MB is a very nice, well made little shoulder bag that's very convenient for casual trips, but it doesn't afford the same protection as the Lowepro, but then they're not really in the same class. Based on my experience with the quality of the MB, I'd expect their bigger bags to be more than up to the job :)

I use the Company Gigolo 9000, excellent bag and can hold pretty much all my stuff bar tripods etc. Not a backpack, but the quality is excellent and the attention to detail in the design is astounding. Can even fit my Macbook in the slot at the rear!

Ill try to get some tomorrow night if you wish.

The think i like about crumpler gear is that it doesnt scream PHOTOGRAPHY GEAR IN HERE like some bags do, which is good when your out and about

Yeh please, if you wouldn't mind.

I use a Pretty Boy XXL and have no complaints about it whatsoever, although my daughter reckons it looks a bit gay for a man to have a shoulder bag:)

As mentioned above doesn't shout look at all my camera gear which is a bonus in certain areas during these somewhat lawless times

I am not going to be too much help to you but I have some crumpler bags - camera, PC ones etc. and also have a 3N1 30. I use the Kata most because it give me fast access to my camera and its bits without having to carry it on my side or having to put the bag down to change lenses etc. I have personally found, with the weight of all the gear, that a backpack is best. However, Crumpler bags are very well made, are tough and are also well padded.
So, as I say, both are good bags!

Thats whats drawing me to the crumpler... it doesn't look too much like a camera bag!

So, anyone with the Messenger Boy Full Photo... would it fit the gripped 50D with 100-400 attached with another couple of lenses/flashes?

Thanks, appreciate the input so far.

Sorry a_lex, another 'bit off the mark' reply to your direct question but I use a Muffin Top Full Photo which takes my gripped D300S with a Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 attached...possibly equivalent in overall size to your set-up. Throw in room for a 15" laptop too (or a few magazines for a long haul flight), plus a large pair (Nikon Monarch) binoculars, 1.4x TC and a Nikon 18-200mm and it's a TARDIS of a bag.

Oops.. didn't even see the full size muffin ones!

I ordered the messenger boy one, hopefully it will be ok... will be here tomorrow!

I have one, which I love. It has survived lots of rain on my back whilst riding my motorbike! BUT the only thing that bugged me is all the zip pulls have snapped off!

I've purchased a few for laptops for my company over the last five or so years. They seem to be made well enough if you can get past some of the styling.

As it happens I bought Messenger Boy 3000 at my local branch of Jacobs this afternoon for my Canon A1 and a couple of FD lenses. £21.99 seemed like a good price for a nice, compact bag.

Me as well :) and I like it that it's not an obvious camera bag, and being a girly, I don't have the same 'other' problem as you!!!:lol::lol:

In all honesty, it's probably too small for what you want - I can get D5000 with kit lens, plus another lens, purse, & a filters - maybe a can of coke if t'other lens is a small one ;)

The secret is in the zips. Seriously. They ooze quality. Crumpler bags are brilliantly thought through, have terrific pockets and spaces and gizmos and whatnot and can hardly be bettered as a camera bag, whatever you are looking for. They do also, sadly suffer from truly stupid names.

The messenger boy looks stylish as well... I think I might look into getting one of these.

Well I bought the messenger boy and it came today... I now see what people mean by it been a strange shape, the compartment isn't flat so can be quite fiddly to fit stuff in. Saying that, does exactly what I wanted it to. I wanted it to hold my kit and not be half full...

100-400L on the side with the 50 above it. 50D laid next to it with the 17-40L attached and the space left above that where there blower currently is will be for the 24-105L which is currently out on loan with a friend. Lots of little pockets etc too.

Which messenger boy is it? Any chance of a photo of you wearing it so we can see size etc. I can't carry much lol but I am considering one.

Thats the full photo backpack. Its pretty small really, smaller then my fastpack 200. It does stick out a bit but thats mainly the padding on the back of the bag, there loads of it to keep it comfy! Will stick a couple of size pics up tomorrow for you.
