Bought (well thought I had) a nice Konica S3 today. Quite a keen price, paid via paypal.

All good til this afternoon when I get this email........

dear sir,

we have just got your payment.thank you sir.
we have a problem with the camera.
The glas in front of the camera is broken.
the camera is leaky on this spot.
i think you dont want to have the camera in this case.
we are sorry for the description, if you want , we can send you a picture from the failure.
the glass was attached only provisionally. The colleague has not noticed it similar.
please answer us quickly
best regards

I can excuse the dodgy English, as it's a store in Germany. What I can't excuse is backing out of the sale when a commitment has been made. I have offered to take the camera anyway but no reply.

I'm pretty sure they mis-priced it, hence the problems, lack of response etc.

I have been looking out for one of these for ages and am quite disappointed, to the say the least.

Bah.

Sounds like they do not want to sell, what was the price, as you know good S3,s sell for between £130 and £160.

erm well what about a Konica C35 instead......it's VG.

So they fully backed out of it then? Bad form on their part tbh. How is feedback going to work? Or has the whole thing been dissolved?

You can still leave feedback afterwards. They will need to do a transaction cancellation, which you confirm and then leave feedback. If you don't confirm they can do it anyway after a week.

If you think it's a good price and you're not going to lose out, get them to send it anyway and risk it. I lost out last year on a whole bunch of cameras, sold as a job lot, £20 for a whole load of tat and one decent camera, never arrived, no proof of postage, ended up getting a refund. Cheating scum basically, but that's the nature of the occasional ebay chancer.

Hmmm,

Right, Humble pie time. They sent me a photo this morning of the damage!

It's not too bad - Apparently the light seals are shot (£5 from ebay), Meter may be playing up (we'll see about that one) and the plastic at the the front of the rangefinder is detached - easy fix.

So, they say they are going to send it. Watch this space!

I might get a £40 paperweight if the meter is indeed borked!

Well, Camera arrived yesterday. Front RF/VF piece of glass is loose and filthy where somebody has tried to fix it before. Light seals are like glue. Will know if it functions properly later today once I've picked up some hearing aid batteries from Boots.

So generally, easy fixes hopefully.

:)

Happy days.

If you need to get new seals I can highly recommend Jon Goodman. He is over in Texas but supplied a set specially cut for my father's Auto S3 for the pricely sum of $10. If you need his details I can pass them along.

Cheers Jim, but couldn't wait, so have just purloined a selection of mousemats from work for the purpose! Can't wait for the delivery time, just need to trim to size and stick down.

Also, Hearing aid Zinc-Air PX675 Batteries are on the 3 for 2 in Boots. So now have 18 Batteries for < £10, will be interesting to see how long they last. Average approximations are 1-3 months.

So now, it's just screwdrivers out and little bit of patience. Hopefully all working by the end of tonight.

Be interested if you get it all sorted. Nice camera that.

Right, Gummy light seals cleaned out, that was a mission. Has taken me approx 4 hours with a lot of cotton buds, some toothpicks and various other bits and pieces to get in all the nooks and crannies!

Have also cleaned the Viewfinder and the non-silvered bits of glass in the RF mechanism, cleaned a lot of dust out etc.

Meter is working perfectly on the hearing aid batteries and the front glass is glued back in. All there is left to do now is make some new light seals tomorrow and run a roll of film.

Happiness.

Great work. Be nice to see some shots at the end of it all

Well this seems a good title for my blabbing rather than start a new thread....Well I have a system in taking two or three cameras out for a shoot, today as the visibility was excellent decided to take some long distance shots using a tripod and different lenses (for comparison) and just took my Minolta X300 (as I also had many duplicate lenses to carry).
Drove to these recent man made hills about 6 miles, got to the top out of breath, set up the tripod, focused on the city of London about 12 miles away and the camera didn't work...WTF cell batteries were dead and had no spares :( Yeah I know I should have checked my gear before a shoot.....................................
