Hi Guys.

Ive been taking pictures for a few months now and decided I wanted to print some/frame etc.

So, I saved my favs on a USB and went to Jessops. I have always trid to get all I want from a pic in frame so I dont have to crop etc. When I got to Jessops and tried to order pics I found out that I would need to crop the pics to fit into the picture sizes (they had strange picture sizes too that dont fit normal frames, another issue)!!

I must say im confused as the picture looks fine to me so why does it need to be cropped? I want the pic to look like it is when I edit it and finally save it etc.

Any way I can get prints of pics which dont need cropped from what I have saved at home?

I have a Canon 500D and use elements 9 for post production.

All help is gratefully received as I want to print the pics that I have spent hours pouring over, not have to quickly decide where to crop in shop!!

Many thanks

what size are the prints do you want?

well A4/A3 would be good or maybe 8 by 12 inches, just something of a substantial size although I guess I just want the printed pic to include everything in the saved image on the USB

Out of camera the aspect ratio is 3:2 so 6 x 4 or any multiplier of 3x2 is what you need to avoid cropping. There are frames available - 6x4, 9x6, 12x8 etc.

OK thanks. Obviously this cant be done at Jessops so any recommendations about places/websites I can use to order prints of faithful representations of what has been captured?

Max Spielmann did a12x8 for me a couple of months back when I needed it yesterday. Said it was a standard in shop size.

Have you cropped your images to a different aspect ratio?

If you haven't 12x8 should fit perfectly. I use DSCL as they need you to prepare your images to be how you want them printed. For instance, if you wanted a 12x8 you need to crop it to the correct aspect ratio (straight out of camera) and resize it to 12x8 at 300dpi, so it will be exactly what you have got out of post production.

One of the constraints that limit the sizes available is what the machine can produce. The printer they use may not be able to make 8 x 12 prints, it may be limited to 8 x 10. Also the number of commercially available frames may also limit choice. Look at the general sizes available, they are 6 x 4 5 x7 and 8 x 10 . So they are supplying prints for what is available, It's not only Jessops, Asda also offer a similar range. I suspect it's similar equipment they are using.

Having said that both are offering 9 x 6 prints which should fit the dimensions you need. It may however be too small for what you want.

You may need to look around the web to find outlets that are offering a wider range than you can find on the high street.
