Cropping images

its one of those things that does get argued over and confuses me, but as I see it, you display the image at 100% on your screen [so you can probably only see a bit of it], then set your crop to crop it to however big you want it [say 800 x 600pxs] at the same resolution and what you are left with is a 100% crop. That doesnt make sense to me as I read it, but I know what I mean :thinking:
 
Lets say your image is 2800 pixels wide - if you use a 'fit to view' you will see the while image but not at full size. Lets say your screen is 1074 pixels wide - crop a part of the image you want to see on your screen at full size and crop it to the number of pixels width that will fit your screen (or the area available to display it).

You end up with just a part of the original image but th epart you have can be viewed at 100% on your screen.

Does that make any more sense?
 
Thanks - I do understand now! That makes sense. However, so far I haven't done such a crop as my photos look noisy at that resolution, so maybe I need to improve my technique and try and use as low an ISO as possible (is 100ISO low or high, I can never remember!). I shall play around and see what I get.
