Well folks now is your chance to win a prize for simply posting a link :D

MPB Photographic have kindly agreed to sponsor a new competition (at the moment it's another one off competition but who knows whether it might happen again). This competition will be to find the best and most helpful critique given during the month of September.

So there are two prizes one for the best critique and one for the person who FIRST nominates that critique.

All you need to do is:

  • Locate some critique that you think is very good
  • Click the number at the top right of the actual post (it's shown as #23 or similar) once done that post will be opened in a tab or window all on it's own. Copy the address of that single post
  • Now reply to THIS thread and post the address copied from above.
  • Now tell us why you think it is really good.
  • Submit it.
If you want you can submit it THEN use edit to add the text about how good it is in order to avoid someone else posting it whilst you are typing :D

RULES

  • DO NOT POST ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS THREAD OTHER THAN THEN ENTRY LINKS.
  • First person to post a link to the critique gets the nominators prize. (from TP)
  • Original poster of the critique gets the critique prize. (from MPB)
  • Don't edit your post to change submitted post number.
  • No more than 4 entries per person per day.
  • Critique MUST be in the critique section.
  • Links posted MUST be from 00:00 on 1st September 2012 to 23:59 on 30th September 2012

PRIZES:

For the person giving the critique

MPB have very generously agreed to give us a £50 voucher that can be used to purchase anything off their site or used towards purchasing something bigger (they have a nice 800mm lens at £2500 at the moment :)) so many thanks to them.

For the person telling us about the critique

Some TP goodies, I'm still getting Marcel to check the back of the cupboard for them at the moment.

right , lets get this party started , I nominate Matt (MCHWT) http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=4936190&postcount=2

matt gives fantastic crit and takes great care over it - this post amply demonstrates that as he's been staring at the pic on an off for an hour tryying to work out what bugs him about it so that he can give helpful and positive critique - go , matthew

I'm going to nominate Christine (Kerioak) for this piece of critique :

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=4940042&postcount=2

As well as saying what she likes about the shot, she's also clearly explained what's not working so well and most importantly why it's not working.
There's some great practical advice on what could be done differently next time too.

p.s.
It really is a complete coincidence that I'm posting directly below Christine's nomination. I decided to nominate that piece of critique before I even looked in here :D

FTR if a piece of critique that I nominate in here is chosen as the winning entry, the nominator's prize will be passed along to the writer of the critique voted in 2nd place.

Keep them coming, remember that you can nominate up to 4 posts per DAY.

BigSoftMoose http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=4941149&postcount=19

Has obviously looked at the image to see what is bugging him about it and put his critique across politely and concisely in a thread that was starting to go off track, thus bringing it back to what it was about. Plus he gave some advise for a future shoot that I had not thought of - but will probably try in the future :)

A nomination for Jeff (Kennysarmy) for his critique here :

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=4943647&postcount=6

The right tone of helpfulness and encouragement for a new member, while also pointing out where things could be worked on.
Great and well written practical advice too.

As before, if a piece of critique that I nominate in here is chosen as the winning entry, the nominator's prize will be passed along to the writer of the critique voted in 2nd place.

And a nomination for Alastair from the same thread.

Very much the same reasons as above.
Again, helpful and encouraging while still pointing out what doesn't work - plus well thought out and useful practical tips for the OP to take on board.

Summer (Sturisoma) for this critique :

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=4948573&postcount=2

I like the fact that although she's new to photography she still had the confidence to share her opinions and she's taken the time to explain why she likes / dislikes the parts that she does.

If a piece of critique that I nominate in here is chosen as the winning entry, the nominator's prize will be passed along to the writer of the critique voted in 2nd place.

Christine (Kerioak) for this critique :

Another really well thought out piece of critique.
Picks out the positives and the negatives and makes suggestions to take forward for next time.

If a piece of critique that I nominate in here is chosen as the winning entry, the nominator's prize will be passed along to the writer of the critique voted in 2nd place.

I don't know whether this one counts as the photo has been removed was was not seen by the critiquer as far as I am aware

MJWC1 (Matthew) http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=4953300&postcount=32
and the added comment in
http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=4953300&postcount=33

This shows empathy, gentle encouragement and advice where some people might take a picture removal as dummy spitting Matthew (and others in the thread) has looked deeper and I think it shows just what this community is really about
