Having read lots of different methods of applying watermarks I though I would share the method I use. To ensure a consistent watermark I create a dedicated brush tool to allow me to 'stamp' the watermark on.

The following tutorial is based on PSE10 but I have followed the same steps in CS5 with no problems on both Mac and Windows.

1. First step is to open a blank file (File > New > Blank file). In order for the watermark to be stored as a brush later on you must ensure...

You need to load the brush and then select it as you would any other brush. Sorry, can't remember off the top of my head how it's done, but if you google loading brushes in PSE??? you should find a tutorial

what operating system are you using?

But I can't use the top numerical keys and don't have a side number pad :(

If you are on Windows, hold the FN and the ALT key and then use the 'blue' numerical keypads

Just for clarification. Once you have created the brush you find it here;

1. Select Brush
2. click drop down
3. scroll down to see your new brush

Do you know how I can create a clear embossed watermark?

You can do this using the watermark as above and sandwiching it between 2 layer and applying an embossing effect.........

Watch this video - far easier than trying to screen grab it and explain it :)

Really good tutorial. Thankyou..i find that the crapness of my pictures means I don't need a watermark

works very well, thanks Nick. Although i did have a problem initially, in that i named my brush 'LAP Watermark' (my initials) and could not find it anywhere in the brush menus. I then created the brush again and renamed it just 'LAP' and it appeared straight away?!?! Sounds crazy to me as it can't be an issue with the length of filename as there are longer ones in the presets already. This was with Elements 9 :shrug:

Never though of making a copyright brush. Great idea. Thanks. Cuts our a lot of work.

Thanks for this, very useful.

so many things to learn on photoshop! atleast with this once you done it once next time its easy.

thanks for this
