I've got lightroom 3.6 and have been able to edit raw files from my 7d no problem. I got fed up not always having a camera nearby so decided to get the canon sx50 bridge camera to keep in the glovebox. Is there any obvious reason that lightroom doesn't/cant open the file ? I just assumed that both camera files were cr2 so they should both be able to be edited. Cheers

I believe the sx50 requires the latest version of adobe camera raw to work.

If I'm right in thinking the sx50 needs camera raw 7.3 but lightroom 3.6 only supports up to version 6.6

Your only option is a DNG converter or update lightroom.

That sounds about right (I don't have the details, but that's the sort of thing that goes on). Follow it up, OP. Adobe DNG converter is free ... then you can use the Lightroom you've already got ...

Thanks guys. I wasn't aware there was the dng converter work around so that's saved a costly (and for me unneeded) upgrade. I'm still a bit baffled why raw files need to be different from camera to camera, but atleast I can now work with it. Cheers
