Any one have any experience couriering a big old heavy camera?

Trying to decide if I can send the RB67 I've just sold by UPS/Parcelfarce or if I'll have to stump for Special Delivery to get sufficient insurance.

Make sure you read the small print of the courier because they will often refuse to transport/insure glass of any kind. As far as I know, Royal Mail are the only option for insured transport of glass items but I haven't checked all options.

So far most of the couriers won't even pay out their insurance if they lose a camera let alone break it!

Whenever I have posted heavy cameras in the past and wanted then insured I have always ended up using RMSD.

One thing to note, is that it sometimes works out cheaper to send the body and lens in separate parcels rather than both together in one parcel.

I would take it apart and wrap the body/back/lens very well then place in a larger box and wrap that to death and post it parcelfarce probly or HeHerpes

I wouldn't use Herpes to post a goose fart, completely useless. :D

Is that because it's practically impossible to wrap a goose fart?

In all seriousness I think wrapping is the key, I have seen people on post offices posting stuff in carrierbags with some tape around it.

when I get stuff I keep the boxes and reuse loads of packaging.

I used parcel force for a mf kit including aluminium case and the insurance up to £500.00 was £4.00 + vat extra.

I ended up sending it Special Delivery, the small print on all of the couriers made me nervous. No point in risking £200 of camera for a tenner in delivery, imo.
