hey hey

when in manual mode are there shutter speed/aperture combinations that you should start with and then adjust accordingly?

ans...i have the cokin p system and want a polariser....should i go for the p160 linear polariser or p164 polariser. whats the difference?

cheers.

In manual you'll probably be driven either by the need for a specific shutter speed (freezing movement, showing movement-blur), or by a specific aperture (f/2.8 or f/4 to give short DoF, f/8 or f/11 for general purpose, or f/22 to maximise DoF). That will probably guide you most of the time.

Linear polarizer doesn't work properly with the light metering and autofocus systems in SLR cameras. You'll need a circular polariser, i.e. the P164 :)

There is a sunny f16 rule, on a sunny day set your aperture to f:16 and match up your ISO and shutter so, if ISO is set to 100 set the shutter to 100 or if ISO is 200, set shutter to 200 and so on. ;)
