Could someone simplify this flare tutorial please?

Basically, instead of just adding the lens flare filter as it is, he duplicates the layer, applies it to the top layer, and then uses layer mask to get rid of the orbs and just leave the bright spot. Afterwards he tweaks the colours to warm it up.

In a nutshell.
- Get your image how you want it, and flatten it to a single layer.

- Duplicate layer.

- Filters > Render > Lens Flare. Select the 105mm prime, and put the brightness slider at approx. 150%.

- Apply a layer mask to the top layer.

- Use either a big soft brush, or even the gradient tool, to make the background show and hide the orbs.

- Job done.

I'd have to be the killjoy who says 'It'll look fake unless you've shot very carefully to make it look real' and follow that with 'If you're going to all that trouble you might as well do it in camera'

Guys, he's in Scotland. How often do you think he sees the sun?

=P

We are sly up here, think we last saw it a couple of weeks back, we all took a photograph and hung it on the bedroom wall, so we wake upto to the sun everyday:bonk:
