I have a corporate headshot to do in the morning, and having got my lights out to check they are working ok discovered one of the two kettle leads isnt working, got out the back up, and thats not working either!! :eek:

Im currently trying to source another lead, but in the worst case scenario, whats the best way to shoot this with one light? The shoot is taking place ina bright clean office in the morning. Any help here much appreciated.

Can't you borrow the lead from your PC?

But don't worry anyway, a lot of this type of shot is perfectly OK with a single light, and in fact they're often better.

Stick a softbox or umbrella on the light, put it directly in front of where the victim subject is facing, and raise it up to the point where it is producing the look you want.

Now add some fill under the chin etc with a piece of white card, a 5 in 1 reflector or whatever else you have handy.
 
When you say backup do you mean backup flash or backup kettle lead. If it's your backup flash not working, I'd advise changing the fuse in the kettle lead ;)

Have you changed the fuse in it? Kettle leads are so well moulded it would be unusual for anything but the fuse to go - unless you have visible signs of damage that is...
 
It's fairly easy to find a new kettle lead. From your kettle for example.

All very well if you have an electric kettle - I know I don't have one in the house!

And even Asda. Which is open 24 hours :). Worst case you can buy an Asda kettle for < £10 and plug the lead into an extension.

But I suspect the moment's passed now.
