I recently took some photos of hedgehogs at a hedgehog rescue centre and I didn`t charge anything and put them on my flickr page and the lady who runs the centre was concerned about flickr selling the images as she wanted to copyright them, I have my flickr account set as far as I can tell so nothing can be downloaded, to be honest there`s not much point me taking these photos if I can`t show them off, but are there websites where images can be displayed but not downloaded or is my flickr account ok for this,Harvey

1. Flickr don't sell images

2. You took them, so you own copyright, unless you are employed by her, in which case in certain circumstances she would own copyright.

She can't copyright the images. Unless you are employed by her and the photos where taken as part of your job you own the copyright and can do what you like with them.

Unless your terms of entry to the hedgehog rescue centre forbade photography. in which case you still have the copyright but can do b****r all with them.

Also, on flickr you can configure it so people can look at your images at the standard flickr resolution (2048 pixels max in width atm) but not have access to the original file. However, you can also limit the standard size that you pictures are viewable and downloadable to 1024 pixels in width. So if anyone did take your pictures, then the worst case is they would only be getting low resolution versions. If that makes any sense?

As far as I know, it is impossible to let people view your images on the internet but not be able to download them. If you can view it, you can download it (not always as simple as clicking download but always possible).

Its a lot more simple than that... I am always amazed that people dont know how the WWW works..

EVERYTHING you look at on your screen is downloaded to your computer to view.. every picture you look at is downloaded to your computer.. All this talk about can/cant download? Its already on your computer.. you couldn't see it otherwise.. It's in your browser cache.

+1, dont forget old school screenshot ;)

Why bother with that on Flickr? Just view the page source and it gives you the link to the original photo. Directly accessing the link doesn't invoke the javascript that prevents you downloading.

The pic is already on your computer.. why do any of that?

You mean she was worried that they would be sold, and that she wouldn't get any of the proceeds ?

If you have no intention of ever selling them then you have nothing to worry about. As you say showing them off is not a problem.

If you had considered trying to make some money out of them now or in the future then it might be worth formalising an agreement where you either agree she has some or no interest in future sales - because it is clearly in her mind. You could make a donation up front to cover any benefit or a percentage of profit on sales in the future. Not a necessity - but maybe good business sense, especially if you want to cultivate a relationship with the centre.

The resized pic is in your cache - the fullsize link is available via the page source

your wrong..
if you view it then its on your computer... try it.. if the link to the jpg is full size then thats what you have...,. the browser resized it.. its still downloaded to your cache as full size.. try it..
