Yes
A very quick question - if you convert a RAW file to jpg does the conversion introduce any further sharpening in the process or simply give you WYSIWYG but in a different file format

TIA

It wont, usually, add any sharpening, and will be WYSIWYG (depending on the quality setting you save your jpeg at). I say usually as I have never seen it happen but I guess some software somewhere might do it, but as far as I know stuff like Photoshop doesn't

That depends on the program you use to convert those raw files and how you set the conversion options.
For example UFRaw (or dcraw) doesn't add any sharpening at all simply because there are no sharpening routines in them (that I'd know of in the time of writing this).

Is it best to shoot everything in Raw? I have never touched it before and usually just shoot in jpeg fine?

Sharpening is an option in Silkypix and Raw Therapee.

I dont think any of the most used programs add sharpening and rightly so. Why would you want them to?

Thanks for that I just wanted to get that clear in my mind as I believe shooting jpg in camera applied some sharpening and wanted confirmation

Most DSLRs will have an option to control how much sharpening is applied to JPG in camera.
