Posted here as i really didnt know where to put it :thinking:

I plan on gutting our garage and converting into a studio type area but just after general help/advice on what i need to look at before i start/what i need in there, insulating, flooring, types of paint/background stuff needed etc.

basically i need to know everything

should really inform the parents of this at some point to

garage is single car width about about car and half long i havent actually measured it properly yet single story height with a pitched roof.

so if anyone can give me any links/advice of what i need to think about/do would be sooo helpful.

Matt

edit: flash wise to begin with ill be using 2/3 flash guns off fitp.

You might need planning/building permission/regs for a start.
Next thing is to make it warm and dry, assuming it is single skin construction that will mean at least lining with some sort of second skin and adding insulation to the void. Extra electrics if you are thinking of studio lights etc will require professional electrical work.

I assume the existing door (up and over?) will need to be replaced (hence planning consent) and bricking up in some way? So you will need a brickie/builder for that.

If its got part of the house above i.e. an integral garage, you wont need to worry about insulating the roof, otherwise you will.

Cant think of much else at present.

Gary, wouldnt be groups just one/two people at a time i would of thought and yeah width will be my major problem :(.

Mat, Main door is up and over but would be using the other end of the garage so hoping i wont need to get that end bricked up.

it is single skin construction so will need to think of someway of warming it up without cutting into the limited width.

garage is seperate to the house so will need to insulate the roof and has a door on the side just under half way down aswell as the main up and over door.

If you are doing it commercially you will need to think about the building a lot more of course, as health and safety will become important (and insurance etc). If its non commercial, I wouldn't give a hoot...

not for me, but i've not had any models round yet (keep dropping out, not impressed)

I'm using speedlites like you too

I used exterior masonary paint on the walls (seals the brickwork), left the brickwork as texture for backgrounds, and can then turn the photo sideways to get width.

Floor. I laid a Plastic sheet, otop of the concrete, with laminate insulation ontop, and Chipboard flooring painted white ontop (rolled the plastic over the edge to allow any water the creeps in under the door to not get into the wood, even though it is waterproof)

At night i roll a sheet of plastic over the top of the floor and three cheep mats from IKEA, then roll the toy car back in at night

I also boarded out the roof.
