Would the (Nikon) VR function on my 70-300 be effected by the use of a converter betwen it and D80 body. Please be gentle when answering,I`m only a beginner.

The Nikon converters for 300mm plus zooms which have a protruding front glass may make contact with the lens rear element which might not be sufficently recessed is how I interpret the chart shown in that link fracster.Coupled (sic) with the decrease in picture quality,I think I will avert the use of converters .Thanks for info.

teleconverters work as a stop gap but on zoom lenses the results can be quite bad as it will magnify any imperfections in the lens and due to their design zooms suffer from more imperfections.

I use a 2x on my 300mm prime occasionally and it works really well as a stop gap as I cant afford to get a 600mm but it does let me try out focal lengths that I otherwise would have no oppertunity to try. Sadly I think this will cost me money in the end, I want a 600 f4L :(.
