Afternoon all.

I'm busy preparing a flyer that is to be printed at 1-2-Print, however it has to be in CMYK mode. I've only got PSE 6, which (I don't think) won't allow me to save as such. I've had a look online at some converters, however they tend to have a max file size of 8mb, whereas my file is currently 13mb and growing.

Any suggestions?
Cheers.

You're about to open a can or worms....

Find out from the company you are using which colourspace they use for their CMYK - there's quite a few - and also the "dotgain" and there might also be the greyramp - which is known as gray componanant replacement or undercolour removal...

As Dave says converting RGB to CMYK is not straight forward, as CMYK has loads of flavors, depending on ink, press and print stock. I suspect the print company is expecting the design to be produced via a graphics design package such as InDesign or similar which will convert RGB to CMYK as part of it's output routine. Also CMYK files are about 25% larger as the contain an additional channel, the Black or K channel.

I'd have a word with the print company, explain your predicament and see if thay can take your RGB file and covert it for you

Hmm, here was me hoping for an easy life! Thanks for both your help, I'll contact the printers.

RGB > CMYK = huge can of worms

generally i work in RGB for all of my PP then convert at last min prior to output,

the main thing is to get an accurate RGB/CMYK conversion the reason this is hard is that your software does not know the piment density of your inks as well as the linearization profile for your output device.

simple way is to convert from RGB to a known CMYK icc such is swap20 or iso. as long as your output device is profiled to emulate a known ICC then your most of the way there.

how critical is the colour match ?

do you have a proof you can send the printer ? this will help them considerably
