Hi all, I presume this is the right forum for this question. I have a Epson Stylus R2400 printer and recently Epson has put the price up for the K3 Ultrachrome ink (approx £100 depending on where yo buy) In veiw of this I was contemplating getting the Lyson Bulk printing System for the R2400 as it comes complete with profiles for the printer and the ink works out a lot cheaper. Do you think this is a viable option for printing or is it best to keep making Epson a Fay Cat? It would be extremely helpful to get your valued opinions on bulk ink systems.

I've never tried the bulk systems but my advice would be work out the amount of printing you're likely to do with it V the chances of you wanting to upgrade the printer.
If you're going to keep the printer until it breaks then it's worth the outlay.
I just bough an Epson 2000P A3 printer which uses pigment ink, it's quite old now,around 7 years but the quality of print it produces is stunning, I can't see me ever wanting to replace it but some have to have the latest because it's the best.
As long as you're not one of those i'd say it'd be worth it in the long run, the main problem I found with dye based printers was clogging of the heads, if it's not going to be used much it may clog up, my previous printer was a Epson R200, I only ever used compatible inks in it and I can't say I noticed any difference in the print quality after the initial Epson ink ran out

I intend to use this printer for a good while yet, and for photography only so the initial outlay for Lysons' system would be worth the investment providing the print results were good (I still use an r200 but or word processing and letters only).

Epson printers running Lyson Ink have in the past had problems with head wear, and as replacing a head on an Epson can be quite expensive, There are other systems and ink out there, maybe its worth a google.
If your not printing high volume its debatable if there is any cost saving, after taking into account its initial purchase and future running costs, it may well be cost effective to continue running Epson K3 ink which is very good.
You would also need custom profiles for all your paper and Lyson ink, OK if you use Lyson paper but there is much better quality paper out there.

I use a continuous ink system that I bought off ebay on a epson 2100 A3 printer, it cost me £45.00 and have been really pleased with it and its been running for over a year now...the downside is that you may struggle to get a print of exactly what you see on your monitor because the profiles are for genuine inks and lord knows where some of these bulk inks come from.
Thanks Guys that's helpful. Having taken on borad your remarks concerning printer head ware Mark and the fact that volume is low at this time I think it may pay me to stick with the K3 ink as I agree the results are quite stunning. Thanks again.

I have been using CISS for about 6months now on both my printers (Epson RX685 & Epson 1400).
I bought both systems from the same supplier and the ink as well from the same place.
The delievery is fast and the help they offer are good.
Anyways I found a system for your printer and also the refills of ink.
I know the price of the set up seems steep but you get 100ml of each colour also.

Been using CISS on my Epson R265 for the past year, can't see any quality difference but, a lot cheaper, a little bit of hassle setting it up but, no problems since.
Thanks George for the links It look good and lots of savings on the ink and the purchase of the system (Lyson costs £199.00). Thanks Pete its always reasuring to know people are satified with this system. Did you get profiles for the ink as part of the purchase?
