Hi Folks,

I know this has probably been asked but i am really asking about a specific area and thought you lot might be the best people to ask. We are just about to move to a new house which has an extra room and a conservatory which i have the choice of turning into a smallish studio. Now the options are pretty different in that i have a spare bedroom which is 8 X 12’9 or a conservatory which is a bit bigger at 11’4 X 12’6. I know i might run into problems controlling light in the conservatory but i am really starting to like the thought of using natural light in there anyway. My question is basically if i decided to use the conservatory which blinds or drapes should i be thinking of to block the light or diffuse it? Obviously i can open these if natural light is the path i choose but i would still image the light would need diffused. Just for info the room has windows all round it with a perspex type ceiling which rises to a point about 12 feet or so high.

Would large diffusion panels work if they were stand mounted. Kind of like the ones you see assistants holding for togs outside?

I have a friend who owns a blinds company so whatever is suggested i can ask him to provide for me.

Regards

Scott

The point of a studio is to carefully control the light, so unless you're considering blackout blinds, the conservatory is a bad idea IMHO.

Or you can be happy with all your pictures having almost identical flat boring lighting - which you're free to do of course.

We bought these via Ebay.
The 'normal' ones are fabric but what's needed for this purpose is the 'blackout' option.

It isn't at all clear from the listing but the blackout ones are vinyl, are available in any of their colours and really do block the light.
Pull 1 cord to open the louvres, pull the other cord to move them out of the way, if you want to make use of the daylight.

Diffusion panels have their uses, but most of the time you will want to control the light, not just spread it around.

Thanks for the replies guys. I feel the smaller room is just too small so that's why I am leaning towards the conservatory. Black out blinds are certainly a viable option. I'll have a look at the ones you've linked to Garry.
