I wanted to share this story for a few reasons and you can interpret your own meaning from it.

My wife took a picture a few days ago of a building, in Manchester I think it was, that had a similarity to the Flatiron building in NYC.

She posted it on FB and made mention of her art teacher from school in Indiana 40 years ago and how she had taught her to understand perspective.

Someone on her feed was connected to that teacher and the teacher responded to my wife's post with some kind words.

For all that FB can be a PITA and all the other horrid things that it can be, sometimes we need to recognise there is some value in it. There is also value in calling out some recognition for those who influenced you at certain times in your life even if they may never see it.

So maybe this is a good thread for us to do that. I'll start:

To our family friend Keith who sent me postcards from all over the world when I was a teenager. It was his influence that brought me to the Merchant Navy as my first job and enabled me to see the world while getting paid to do it.

Keep it going..............

One big influence in my life was my RE teacher (and I'm sorry but I've long since forgotten his name) who read the bible with us and then analysed each passage. This made me realise that I could question anything, everything and anyone, agree or disagree and form my own views and opinions. If I'd never met him I would probably have come to these conclusions by myself but maybe he got me there sooner.

I have a whole list of people who seem to have come into my life at opportune moments, but I'll just mention my primary school teacher, Mrs Cynthia Stone, who nurtured my interest in natural history, including lending me books from her personal library. My interest in nature has been the cornerstone of everything I've done in life.
