I haven't done many portraits, but this is a friend of mine and I asked if I could take his photograph.

The connection on the day was, quiet, comtemplative and he was lost in his thoughts.

It was strange, I didn't start fiddling with the camera as I have a tendency too, but we talked, and most of the time he looked out into the middle distance.

One of those rare moments, I hope it comes across in his portrait.

I like that Satz :D

My only not exactly criticism but personal thought is that that thing to the right hand side looks like a couple of cartoon character eyes watching him with an open square mouth and it keeps drawing my eye to it... but less affected people than me might not see the cartoon character face I see. I think I'd have been tempted to move him or it.

Apart from that and that may be just how my mind works I do think it's a lovely and characterful portrait. Well taken :D

Can see this working well with a crop to make it portrait orientation, the subject would be looking into the outside of the frame for some added mistery.

Nice capture though, well done!

Love it! I didn't mind the "cartoon face" anyway though ahah :D

Personally, I like the original shot with the subject looking off into the distance. Great pose, expression and use of the shadows. Agree that the background is a little distracting, but about a 5 minute dirty edit in Affinity Photo gave the following results

Thank you, D,

That is exactly what I wanted, I couldn't edit it correctly as I’ve not got the skills in PS to do it.

Appreciated.

Satz. When I had a look at this I did a portrait orientation crop at 4x3 and cropped your friends shoulder right shoulder a little to get him slightly left of centre. Might be worth a try and see how you feel?
