Connecting Nikon D7000 to TV query

I have recently purchased a nikon d7000 dslr and bought a hdmi cable (hdmi to hdmi mini)to connect it to my tv. I thought it would be straight forward - plug it in and photos will be on screen - but for some reason it doesnt seem to work - ie nothing will come on the tv screen.
On the menu I have chosen 1080p and for the source to be 'on' but i cant see anything on the screen either on playback or using live view.
I also noticed that navigating the menus was slower with the hdmi cable in.
Anyone got any suggestions?
btw the tv im trying to connect to is a Panasonic Viera.

Have you selected the correct input on the telly? Hdmi port 1,2, 3 etc

On my tv I have about 8 options.

Does the camera have a PAL/NTSC option in the menu? Maybe check those if it does.

I have the same as you, a D7000 and a Panasonic Viera.

I connected the camera according to the instruction book and likewise the TV according to the instruction book and BINGO my shots were on the TV screen.
