Hi,

I am sure this must have been asked before but I can't seem to find it with a search on this forum - maybe I am searching using the wrong words

We have started doing studio lighting for my C&G Level 2 at nightschool. I would like to connect my 400d to the lights using the sync lead.

Can I buy a hotshoe adaptor that does this? Will this do the job?

I am getting really confused as I am not sure whether I can potentially fry my camera if I do this wrong...

Am I better setting up so that the studio lights are sensitive to the onboard camera flash instead?

TIA

That expensive little gizmo is for firing hotshoe flashes, not studio lights.

All you need for studio lights is a hotshoe adapter that terminates in a PC socket, costs around a tenner I thing, probably worth £1.

But PC leads are old technology. A cheap radio trigger would be much easier and much more reliable.

If you don't want a radio trigger you can use your built in flash or a hotshoe flash but a radio trigger would be easier/better

Ah well that's a nice and cheap answer. I'll get myself one of those adaptors for the college work at least. I've been researching skyports and pocket wizards and all that malarky and think I understand the deal now - but the adaptor will at least get me going until I feel like buying my own lighting or strobes with wireless triggers.

Thanks!

So I went ahead and ordered this but after some googling I have read a few things that say I could potentially fry the sync circuitry in my camera - I should have used the Canon adaptor as this has a voltage regulator.

I haven't found this mentioned in many places but just wondering if anyone knows for certain?
