Conjunction Of Venus & Jupiter Friday 01/02/08

I'm feeling very tempted to get up early and go have a look. Acording to Heavens Above they'll come over the horizon at ~6am, and sunrise is at ~7:40am. All depends on the horrible cloud cover drifting away D: Ahh If I had a telescope I'd be out camping

er snow showers forecast for tonight! :)

arf.. so it is, miserable weather forecast :/
But who knows, someone somewhere may get a lucky break in the clouds :)

Looks like it could be on for me, I'll be letting the dogs out at about 5.30 am our time and the sky is as clear as a bell tonight. Better get the gear ready.

If you think about it- it is the clouds that make sunrises & sunsets so spectacular. You just don't want total coverage that's all.

Just got this e-mail alert from www.spaceweather.com

Space Weather News for Jan. 31, 2008
http://spaceweather.com

MORNING SKY ALERT: Set your alarm for dawn. On Friday morning, February 1st, Venus and Jupiter converge in the southeastern sky less than 1 degree apart; they will beam through the rosy glow of dawn like a pair of celestial headlights. It's a spectacular view worth waking up early to see. The February 1st alignment kicks off four mornings of beautiful views as the crescent Moon moves in to join Venus and Jupiter over the weekend. Visit http://spaceweather.com for sky maps and photos.

Photo taken today (not by me)

Looks stunning- tommorow they'll be even closer.

Had a miserable time on the 1st, looked out and saw the moon so thought it was good but when I got to an open area I found a nice thick cloudbank stretching from the eastern horizon all the way round to the south, it just wasn't tall enough to obscure the moon D: Stuck around and took some sunrise shots though so wasn't time wasted.

Now this morning.. completely clear skies :D Got some nice shots but had a mare exposing the moon well. Not to mention waiting for planes to stop circling in the middle of my frame (literally.. across from right to left, then back to the right, then off to the left to land at Heathrow) :bang:

Any tips on getting the moon? I'm thinking about trying some more on the 4th when the moon will be right next to them aswell, just before dawn.

Got my Venus/Jupiter conjuction photo- a day later than advertised!- but the two planets were still quite close.
