I have decided to replace my 300 F4L with a 70-200, Oh! how I miss that lens :'( Coupled with the 1.4 T/C I have, it gave great results. However I am also on the lookout for a lens to go between the 50mm 1.8 and the 70-200. Any suggestions on one that will cover general use but with a wide enough view for scenery. Not sure if I should be looking for a small zoom. Budget will be about £250 - £300.
 
You want a lens to go between a 50mm and a 70-200mm? Something like a 51-69mm zoom? I think you'll be disappointed. ;)

If the 50mm is too wide, take a step forward. Two steps forward and the 70-200 will do the job. If 70mm is too long, take a step back. Two steps back and the 50mm will do the job.

Have I just saved you £250?

:lol: No Stewart not looking for 51-69, but I thought that something like a 28-135 IS or 24-105 IS, would be good as a general walkabout lens as opposed to having a 70-200 knocking me hips as I stroll around :) I know they cost more but maybe a reccomended third party lens would suffice.
And no you aint saved me anything, cos I will spend it on something else :lol:

Guessing that you'll need a bit of overlap for convenience then the 28-135 IS or 28-105 are probably the best options and both would come in under your budget (especially secondhand). Neither will match the output of your 70-200 but that's not going to happen for £250-300.

Cheers Canon-Bob, im just a bit confused :lol: probably thinking back to much of the old days when you had a telephoto for those far off shots, a 135 which was a good lens as such for portraits, and yer bog standard lens which came with the camera. Toooooooooooooo!! many choices today. Just wanna make sure I get something in between that will do me for a while.
