Hi all, I regularly shoot for daily local papers and events companies, I mainly shoot rugby and have covered RFU Championship games, Aviva Ladies Premiership and recently an Aviva Under 18s game. A few agencies have said they would like to look at giving me some games but wanted to see more football photos, I have done low level local games but want to try and build some experience on some higher level of football such as skrill south league games etc.

If you have done this how hard was it to get accredited by the FA etc.? I have PLI insurance etc.

Go to the conference website for the contact info... conference licence is pretty easy to get.. explain your doing it for a living and you ahve PL cover blah and you should get one no problem..

Thanks, I actually saw an email address on your website and emailed them this morning, they sent me a licence to sign and post to them with my PLI document.

Ah ok, i currently photograph Borehamwood fc when i get a chance. Good luck anyway.

easy peasy innit :) i think this is my tenth yr on the trot with mine..

Yeah just sent them some work I have done for papers and PLI, posted licence on Monday and get it back in the post today, can't wait to go and shoot.

As I normally shout rugby I was going to ask you where you try to sit when doing football if you had no idea spot what would be your top 2 maybe?

I was thinking half way between the goal and the corner but often see people to the side of the dug outs. Or on the sideline opposite to the linesman of course, in the middle between the halfway line and the corner flag to get celebration shots etc.

Personally, I'd say start with sitting behind the goals (between the goal and the corner flag as you say), that's the simplest position to get to grips with this in my opinion.

yeagh I do that a lot... depends who I am working for.. Also depends what type of football.. grass roots and womens footy stuff like that.. scorers will turn to center cirlce to celebrate.. higher level then to behind goals.. for classic saleable action shots then to the side/behind the goals as you quite rightly say.... some ground will only let you go behind goals.. it should be your first question when you get there... where are you allowed...

I have now photographed a conference game, I have photos on my website in low res non downloadable versions, but if I want people's views on them can I post a link to my site or could that breach rules?

Posting conference stuff is fine, its DataCo stuff from league 2 and above thats the issue

I am looking into shooting conference football myself, I currently shoot premier league hockey for a club and that only requires me to be licensed for playoff games and european league games. But at this point of the year I presume that I should wait until next season to apply for my conference license?

A friend I shoot hockey with has told me I also need public liability insurance of a minimim £3m..but I have read elsewhere that the minimum is £2m?
Can anyone help?

5m for premiership and 2m below.. no 3m in football AFAIK

Wait until July and apply for next season...absoloutly no point now you wouldn't get it..

I am in Bristol, so Forest Green maybe Hereford, then in the league below Bath City and Weston Supermare.

Maybe I'm a little late but Herefords game today has a very high possibility of it being their last home game ever and protests are planned due to the chairman virtually bankrupting the club, I'd imagine any photos would be easier to sell on if that's your aim.
They do have a resident photographer though so maybe that would make it difficult.
On another note, after following them for 47 years it's a very sad day for me.

Wish I had known that sooner, I would have come to the game.

Sorry to hear the club maybe ending, sad day for a club with a long history.

every man and his dog involved with non league football are aware of herefords plight.. would think its wall to wall photographers there today... like vultures :( Had some good and bad times photogrpahing at hereford.. always quite lively when accrington stanley play there ..they really didnt like john coleman accy manager :)

Ha - and Hereford managed to survive somehow! Which one of Tamworth, Chester and Hyde will end up in Conference South, I wonder?
