Was at the Metro Arena Gateshead last night for a Simply red concert, I bought the tickets early on and was lucky to be on the end of the middle block 5 rows from the front.

Just before it was about to kick off they positioned chairs at the bottom of the aisles and at intervals all the way back facing the audience, I thought  maybe to spot anyone taking "professional" pics or videos so just as well Mrs G talked me out of taking the 50D/50mm 1.4, the real reason was soon apparent when the performance warmed up as fans were immediately prevented from moving to the front or dancing in the aisles.

It was about 6 months since my last outing to a concert and at that time there were no stewards stopping the fans in the aisles, is this happening where you are.

Btw this was another sterling performance from Mick and his band, his supporting act was very good, a Russian female artist by the name of Valeriya who is hoping to be the first Russian singer to make it in this country, on last nights performance she should.

Well I'm in two minds about that.
Infact no I'm not, I agree with it to an extent.

I've only been to a handful of concerts.

The first was the osmonds (ssh, you, giggling at the back),
We had good seats, and enjoyed the warmup act. Aisles were clear. It was advertised as a seated performance.
As soon as the osmonds walked on stage, loads of the crowd rushed to the front, filling the aisles, and everyone stood up.
Not too bad, but when you consider my wife is 4'9. She couldn't see a thing. Literally.
We eventually jostled for a position where she could see, but we shouldn't have to.
What if someone has a problem where they can't stand up for any long periods of time?

The same happened at Status Quo a couple of months ago. Everyone stood up, loads rushed the stage and stood *infront* of everyone who was sat on the front row, which was IMO just plain bloody rude. Luckily the stewards kept moving them.

It's a seated concert....sit the chuff down boyo! :bat: :D

Interesting. Though the idea of going to a Simply Red concert fills me with the need to burn and stamp on things.

The funniest attempt at H&S I've seen was at a New Model Army gig a few years ago at the Sheperd's Bush Empire. I was in the gods, along with hundreds of other punks, goths and crusties. There was one security guard, and he spent the entire time running up and down telling people to sit down and put that "cigarette" out.

When the band came on, frankly snowballs in hell would have been more effective at keeping control hahahaha

^^
Agree, paid for a seat and despite being in the fifth row I was forced to stand for best part of the concert because of a family in the fourth row that stood up, everyone from the sixth row back was standing !!.

I'm over 6ft so it's not a problem when people stand but if I wanted to stand for 2 hours that's the tickets I'd buy :bang:

Agree with Badgerbaiter.

Was at a gig last month! Bloody awesome. But you had people stage diving and everything.
But it was like a death/environmental metal.

Link cos its just a song!

I have been to 3 seated gigs.
It is wrong on so many levels and after #3 we really did decide enough was enough
Now standing room only

Once acts have "Made it" you are only ever going to see them at seated gigs unless they appear at the outdoor events.Saw Jackson Browne at Colston Hall last night----truly special.People were seated when he played and frequently on their feet applauding after a song right up until the encore-----There is something slightly unedifying when groups of 50 somethings rush a stage. A magical night though.:woot::woot:
Pete.

Most of the bands I like have 'Made It' but I can still see them at standing gigs :)

Maybe your lucky in having the venues in your area.I always have to travel a minimum of 30 miles to attend decent gigs and with one exception they are all seated.Travelled 45 miles cross country to see Joe Bonamassa at a standing gig last year. This year it had to be Colston Hall and hes coming back to do the Albert Hall in the summer.Im sure the next time hes over it will be the usual major halls and arenasThen again perhaps our definitions of "Made It" are open to different interpretations.Either way enjoy your gigs.Support live music.:thumbs::thumbs:
