Concert Shooting

was at a concert last week and you werent allowed anything bigger than a 35mm lens. yet its ok for folk with compacts with x30 optical zoom. weird concept but thats the way it is unfort.
check out the venues rules which i neglected to do

Never been refused a lens into a gig!!!

Always have 7D with 24-70 f/2.8
&
5D2 with 70-200 f/2.8

have a wee nifty 50 f1.8 in my bag but very rarely use it!

Cheers
J

Personally use either a Nifty Fifty if close and personal or a 24-105 if it needs a bit of breating room.

First 2 with 1D MKIV & 24-105 3rd With 5D MKII and Nifty 50

Ive used in the past a D200 body with nifty 50 f/1.8, 85 f/1.8, 70-200 f/2.8 and a 24-70 f/2.8.

Most shots were with the 85mm and the 24-70.
Get a photo pass and no-one will question your gear.

Sorry for the slight hijack, but how is the 5d II AF in really low light gigs? Not so much the bright ish kind of lighting in the pics above (which are great btw).

The 5D II is great on the centre point (as good as any of the 1Ds) I always use centre point focus recompose so had no problems at all would not use the other points myself, and on the centre point it has never given me any problems with hunting and getting a lock,

Comparing the 5D to the Mk IV they are both very similar on the centre point in very low light. and with some very odd stage lighting they still cope fine!

I use a 5D11 for all my gig stuff, generally on 3200 with 24-70. Occasionally use a 35mm 1.4 but range is an issue at the bigger venues,
