Hi,
I had my camera our today (Sony rx100 mk1)for the first time in ages.

However when I went to transfer the files to my laptop the files show up as "dcim" but I can't get them to
open . The memory card is sdhc could this be the issue? The card slot on the laptop only mentions sd , no other types of card mentioned.
My laptop is running Windows 11 . Possibly 18 months old.

Thanks for any advice you can possibly give.

Johnjess

Have you got a card reader? maybe plugging that into your computer with the SD card in it might work

Thanks guys. I put the card directly into the laptop which has a port for sd cards.
I did open the dcim folder but it opens up to a list of files dcim+ a number. No thumbnails of pictures or anything. I can right click and open them individually in the PS Express app but the laptop pictures app isn't seeing them somehow.
I'll give a card reader a go and see if that helps .
Thanks again.

Are they RAW? Not all computer pictures apps can show RAW as thumbnails.

Simple free ones should view them e.g faststone image viewer

Hi, johnjess.

If l've understood you correctly, you're saying that:

The files are showing in the DCIM folder as; "DCIM49695" for example, but no preview or image icon is showing.

This sounds like a "view" setting issue, or your hard drive may be near to full.

Perhaps this link will help:

I'm sure this is a simple fix, let us know how you get on.

Thanks Gary, yes that is correct number only no thumbnail.

I'll read the link properly this evening and give it a go .

Thanks all for your help. I'll update you later on how it went.

Microsoft have a free extension for Windows 10/11 available in their store for viewing raw files:

Never used myself as I import/view with LR.

I have this installed, and it's actually pretty good for what it does. Easy (lazy) quick viewing ;)
P.S I don't use lr

Thanks everyone for your advice and help.
Changing the thumbnail size to large did the trick. I also had an issue with the photos app not opening but my son managed to work that one out.
