Computer for 4K video editing

Hi all, I recently watched some 4K footage on a 'normal' i.e not 4K monitor and was astonished at how much better it looked than standard HD. My present PC is nearing the end of it's life and I want to go down the 4K route, so I want some basic advice on specs for a suitable machine. I am guessing 16gb memory and an i7 processor would be the main requirements, but it may be overkill, my video editing is nothing fancy, I basically shoot lots of clips, shorten them, merge them and maybe add some music and titles. Any advice for a decent desktop that would fit the above would be great, bear in mind I'm not a techy so plain language would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, I am on my way out now and won't be back online till about midnight so any question would have to wait till tomorrow.

Budget is around the £1200 region if that's feasible? the monitor I am going to buy in February so isn't part of the budget now. Thanks.

Well you could look at an HP Z600 on Ebay - I have a couple and they kick the crap out of i7s on Cinebanch tests - usually about 1340cb.

The only drawback with them apart from the weight is that the fans don't ramp up as normal so you have to watch out for that - on mine I have 48GB RAM and twin Xeon 5650 processors.

And they come with 850Watt PSUs.

With them I can easily run 24-30 VMs all at once as long as I cap them at 40% and set the processors to about 85% - that normally gets the temp to about 60C.

Or in the BIOS I can also manually ramp up the fans a tad.

But just in case I always run core-temp set to shut down the PC. at 75C.

And the best part is that you can usually pick up one with 2 Xeon 5650 processors and 32GB RAM for about £350:

That shows the kind of deals you can get - as long as you can add the other parts you need -Video card, SSDs, USB 3 cards etc. - but still under £500-600 for a lot of machine.
