I am always looking at other photographers work for inspiration to help craft and define my own style. I've been looking at the work of quite a few asian photographers and find that a lot of them employ quite a daring and aggressive composition to their work. I think the final images do look fantastic but sometimes feel that an album with every image engaging the viewer to that extent may be a little overpowering.

What do other people think? I personally like to subscribe to a more classical look, but feel that I may be lagging the trends.

I wouldn't worry about any trends. Better to develop your own style and shoot what you enjoy. People will respond to that, otherwise you end up competing against other photographers that do the same thing and the only difference is price.

Couples have their own preferences - some like the aggressive style and others prefer the background togger. Just take the pics what you feel are the best and that'll prove your talent regardless of trend etc

This, this and this again.

You need to work how you like to work, process how you like to process.

completely agree, but its hard to know what needs improving. I am ofcourse ever critical of myself and sometimes find that I still haven't fully crafted my own style.

I think this will develop quite naturally the more you interact with people when you're photographing them. This also depends on your clients and is probably something you should ask them before the wedding...As for myself, I do a bit of both posed and journalistic photography depending on the situation. Some clients freeze up in front of the camera and need a bit of direction, some couples just naturally let loose...I think Jose Villa has some really great things to say about this actually.
