Well, I have finally changed completely from Nikon to Canon, I have part exchanged my remaining Nikon bits and bought the remaining bits to finalise my outfit (except for my ext tubes which have been bought but not arrived yet). I now have the following system

Canon 5D
Canon 30D
Sigma 12-24 EX DG
Canon 17-40 L
Canon 28-105 USM II
Canon 70-200 f4 L
Canon 100 f2.8 Macro
Canon 100-400 IS L
Canon 1.4x Ext II
Canon EX580 II
Suntax Ringflash (digital canon TTL dedicated)
Kenko Auto Extension Tubes (on way)
2 spare batteries
All fits in my Domke F1 bag (weighs a ton though, will keep me fit).

This gives me an equivalent range of 12-900mm utilising the various bodies and converters.

I am amazed at the quality of the images taken with the 1.4x converter and the two 'L' lenses and have been blown away by the IS on the 100-400 although the noise it makes was a little off=putting at first.

Image below taken through rain splattered window and about 40 yards away taken wide open with 100-400 and 1.4x on 30D so 560mm x 1.6 = 896mm equivalent. Handheld!

I'd be interested to hear your reasons for the switch with so many people swapping the opposite way.

Done!

I had a D200 which I loved but as I like wide angles, I had always hankered after a full frame digital SLR so I bought a D3 which was too big and heavy for me, and although the image quality was great, the image quality of the 5D is better at lower ISOs, and as I did not need the speed or want the weight, I went for a 5D unaware that the D700 was going to be just around the corner.

I have in the last couple of weeks been buying different lenses and accessories to complete the outfit.

Now my thoughts: Nikons are much easier to use, the buttons fall to hand easier and there seems to have been more thought gone into the aesthetics of the cameras, I mean, on a Canon you need to use two bleddy hands to change the exposure compensation or use the depth of field preview. The Nikon menu system is better too. But in saying that, I quite like the Canons as I get more used to them, and the image quality from both the 30D and the 5D with the lenses I have is great.

If you chopped my head off you'd see 'Canon' stamped all the way through like Blackpool rock. :D

Seriously I love both marques anyway. ;)
