still on the subject of studio lighting for the beginner!
If I were to buy something like the EX150 can I add other makes of lighting to enhance my kit when finances allow?
how compatible are other makes and models?

am I right in supposing that If I had continuous light I could add other flash type lighting later on?
 
I guess the only thing stopping you from mixing flash lighting products would be whether or not the accessories would be transferable e.g. would a soft box from the Interfits then fit on whatever you upgrade to or would you have to buy more softboxes?

As for mixing flash and continuous, I suppose there's nothing stopping you but you would have to colour correct one type of light to match the other and remember that continuous lighting is exposed by a combination of shutter speed, ISO and aperture where as flash lighting is only exposed by the ISO and aperture so you may find it trickier to get things balanced to start off with.
