Does anyone know of a compact without rechargable batteries ? Been asked to look for one for a friend, they all seem to have Lithium batteries, want one that uses normal pen light batteries.(dont know why ) :cuckoo:

My experience of compacts with normal batteries is that the batteries don't last 5 minutes.

I recommend the Canon PowerShot A1200 or the even cheaper A495 - both take AA batteries

For "Ordinary" people who only use a camera rarely, re chargeable battery's are often flat, especially after a few years use. To recharge them takes several hours if not over night, making the camera useless as a grab, last minute machine. EVERY house can find some AA's, even if you have to borrow them from a remote control.

Not every one would rather go to sleep cuddling their camera (Or Lee Enfield 303) instead of the wife!

PS. Try Fuji. Not the best cameras may be, but often use AA's.

The Powershot A1200 is a fantastic little camera, great picture quality and colours. It has very good reviews. My son took one around the world with him so he didn't have to carry a charger. It has an optical viewfinder and if you use that rather than the LCD screen it saves on battery power. You can of course still use rechargable batteries if you want.

I'll second that emotion. SWMBO has an A1200 and despite it being a Canon the IQ is pretty darned good :nono:

Stick some Eneloop or 7-day shop rechargables in it and they'll last weeks :)

yep I have a powershot - tis very good
