Hi guys,

Up until recently I used a Fujifilm Finepix S3400. However, around four weeks ago it was dropped and broken by a friend (completely by accident and I don't blame him for it all, though he was incredibly upset by it). I looked into getting it fixed but where I live is basically in the middle of nowhere and I can't find anywhere local to fix it. So I thought, rather than spending a small fortune on getting my old one fixed, why not spend a small fortune on a new camera altogether?

I'm a total amateur (mostly because I'm only 16). Mostly I specialise in macro and landscape photography. I suppose I'd like to be better at portraits but they're not something that's a necessity for me. Obviously being so young its not a case of 'money no object' for me, but I'd like something reasonably priced - preferably in the £600 or less range.

What kind of camera do you think would be best for me? I am willing to go over £600 if necessary but ideally I wouldn't really like to.

Thank you :)
Jazz.

Fujifilm x20?

Spend the rest of your budget on girl's:thumbs:

:plusone: for the X-20. Not perfect for macro but reasonably competent and very capable for landscapes. Enough MP to allow some cropping too.

This weeks gadget show had a look at starter DSLRs from Sony, Nikon and Canon. That's worth a look. All 3 are under £600 and the sony one is under £400.

I'm a big fan of bridge cameras as they're offer immense flexibility. I'd check out the panasonic, sony and fuji ones that are about.

This site is worth a good trawl to see what is out there:

Another vote for a bridge camera if you do a lot of walking. My daughter has the SX50 and I seem to be taking this out a lot more than lugging my DSLR + lens around.

For £600 you can get a real nice all-rounder bridge cam plus more. Without the added expense or worry about having to buy extra lenses. I'd keep it to around 350 if I were you, and use the rest of your budget to get extras, like a hot-shoe flash [so you can experiment with bouncing light, would be useful
for your macro too] - Fuji have a nice tidy flash that I use with my X100s - the Ef-20. Maybe a light stand, reflector, tripod ... oh, and a good bag.

Something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fujifilm-Fi...sr=8-2&keywords=finepix+HS#productDescription
