Iwould appreciate it if someone could give me a little advice...regarding my compact flash card...I have a canon 400d....I took a few photos...looked at them on the pc...put card back in camera...and a horrible sign came up...saying card needed to be replaced (or something similar)....and to top it all NO IMAGES on card...(so quite a few good photos are gone forever!!......please advise.......jackie

most cards come with a (tiny) CD with "rescue" software
give that a try
do NOT attempt to format the card until all else has failed

did you try putting the card back in the PC?

oh and next time - download the pics, don't just browse the card!!!!
and shut that stable door!

if the photos are really important to recover then give this a go:
card recovery

there is a free trial which might turn something up..?

this one might be better though as you have a Lexar card:
image rescue

must read the original posts properly!

thanks folks for your words of wisdom.......(i didn't have a cd with the card)....the card recovery sounds a good idea......thanks...

The image recover software that came with my Lexar card worked really well I ran it out of curiosity on one of my cards that I had deleted images and formatted a couple of times and it recovered images from before the format, as long as the data has not been written over it will recover them.

dave....i wonder why i didn't get any software with my lexar card?!...when i took it back to curry's (where i bought the camera etc)....they said that i had 'fried it'...when i took it out of the camera....i should have either earthed myself or took it out carefully holding both sides and not in the middle.....is he giving me b......t?....i suspect he is!..jackie

you couldnt touch anywhere on the CF card that would put static into the chip unless you poked a paperclip into the holes in the bottom ????

Is possible the camera fried the card if it was taken out with the camera switched on or writing to the card ? can you read the card in the computer at all ? did you eject the card reader/card before taking it out of the computer ?

LOL. Yep. he's spun you a real load of cobblers there. That's the classic advice for handling computer bits where there's a real possibility of touching component parts.

Theres no danger whatsoever of doing that with a CF card - all the contacts are on the end down those little holes.

I too have a Lexar CF card and received no software with it. I did get software with my Sandisk card though.

You don't get the software with Lexar cards, but in the box is a leaflet ( folded a few times ) that gives you serial numbers and web addresses. You download the software, and then use the serial number on the leaflet.

I'd try another CF card in the camera, and make sure it's not a camera fault. Also check the camera to make sure there are no bent pins on the bottom.

Also you didn't put the memory card in the wrong way round did you? I shoot Nikon so you can't do it but I have heard that you can physically put a CF card in backwards in Canons ( I might be wrong ), don't know how true this is but if you did then that would cause the problem ( and damage the camera )

Pete
