Yes
As my laptop does not accept CF cards, I will have to buy a CF card reader.
I had a USB one many years ago, is this still the way it is, or is there a faster way, firwire etc, seeing the file sizes are much larger now.

Hi. Your 60d would normaly come with a download lead. This enables you to plug the camera into a usb port to download direct to pc.

60D does not use CF card - uses SD cards

USB would be fine - unless you have an express slot or pcmcia slot on the PC?

You can get all sorts... but what interfaces does your laptop have?

Sorry! I am getting a 7D, hence the question.
I know I have a firewire port, not sure about the others.

you can get firewire CF card readers and they should be faster
and a lot more expensive

whats the make and exact model of the laptop - we may be able to see if pcmcia or express slot
Or we may be able to see from device manager

It's a Dell Studio 17, model 1737.

Just done a quick search, and it mentions a Express Card/54?

You can get a PCMCIA adapter with a CF slot that plugs straight into the laptop, if it has one. Most laptops seem to, but I've seen a few without them recently. I've got a USB3.0 multicard reader built into my desktop and I have a portable multi card reader for when I use my laptop, but I've got an SD card slot built into the laptop so was looking at alternatives.

Something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PCMCIA-Co...AsAccessories_MemoryCards&hash=item4cf6cc9b3d would be spot on.

Post back the results in device manager
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

how to access device manager for different windows versions
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm

windows key and pause Key should open to allow device manager to be seen,
on a laptop you may need to use windows key + FN key + Pause Key

if this does not work then

Windows 7 or Vista
Click on the Start Orb
In the Start Search box type
device manager and then press enter

-------------------

Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
windows 7
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers click on the + > post back the devices listed there

post back if
Intel ICH9ME
thats the spec - but it may just say
intel mobile express chipset

It would be perfectly OK to just get a USB one, mine cost about £3 I think and a typical few dozen RAW files from a 5Dii takes a couple of minutes to download.

I got a Lexar USB 3 CF card reader - it works perfectly, also works fine in USB2 ports, take a look on Amazon.

USB is slow. Direct from camera is even slower. Get an Expresscard reader and experience high-speed downloads.

if there is budget, get the expresscard reader. usb 3.0 is better speed than firewire tho. get the UDMA CF card reader.
