Hi all ...... im looking for a reasonably compact negative film scanner under £100 if possible that will scan both 35mm and 120 negs .... not really looking for a flat bed type ... just something smallish that does a reasonable job for the money .... any model recommendations would be appreciated .... thanks :)

I don't think what you are looking for exists. If you want to spend in the region of £100, you will need to compromise on at least one of your requirements (e.g., go for a flatbed, only scan 135 film, be willing to spend more than £100, etc.).

Hi
If you want a scanner for 35mm and 120...the cheapest type is a flatbed scanner...if you are happy with that, then the Epson V500 is quite good esp for 120. Cheaper models and arguably better are older models Epson 3200 and 4990.

I can't for love nor money NIR money find a v500 for under 170 quid... Can get a 550 for 160.

Under £100
Scan 120 and 35mm
Not a flatbed

Choose any 2 from 3.

I don't think what you're after actually exists, the Plustek OpticFilm 120 Slide and Negative Scanner is 21 x 37.4 x 18.9 cm and will cost you about £1750 new and about £1000 secondhand if you can find one and the Nikon Coolscan 9000 is 21 x 24 x 49 and that footprint is only marginally smaller than a flatbed but is also about double the height and probably about 25x what you're looking to spend, even secondhand.

Pound for pound the flatbeds really are your best option.

FWIW, I see flatbeds as actually being reasonably compact... it's Drum Scanners that start getting a bit silly in the desk-space stakes.

^ What TBY said. I used to keep my V500 in the bottom of the wardrobe and just get it when I needed to scan. Whilst they're not tiny, they're the smallest option for anywhere near £100.

I think the OP was really hoping to avoid going down the flatbed route, unfortunately I think he's/she's doomed to disappointment.

Sorry, I'm on the app and didn't realise TBYs original post was a link to the same classifieds ad, doh!

Try a Screen Cezanne! They make most drum scanners look compact!

But, yeah, a V500 is almost certainly the best match for you.

thanks for the help ........... the scanner i have i purchased in 1992 ..... i feel even the lowest cost scanners might have surpassed its abilities since then ... lol

Looks like it might have to be a V500 or V550 after all ............ now to find somewhere to put it .. lol
