ok my mrs has MS and i have asked about various lenses for her D7000 in the past and had some good advice.
she is now finding it too much for her so we have decided to get her a compact.
we were in curry's today and were looking at a Panasonic TZ80 which she did like the look of and was about the budget range.
we were going to buy it but the customer service in there was terrible and even though there was about 4 members of staff stood about they were not interested in helping so we walked.
i have now decided to come on here and ask advice on it, is it a good camera or would you recommend something else for similar sort of budget.
thanks in advance.

I was contemplating the TZ 80 but after seeing prints from it side by side with those from the TZ 100, I paid the extra. Can be a bit fiddly (as can any compact) so see how Mrs Gunner can cope with it on a poor MS day before making any decision.

the 10x zoom on the TZ100 would be a loser for her as she likes to zoom in :(

I'd go for either the TZ100 or LX100 (both roughly the same price) depending on whether you want reach or better IQ.

Both of the can be remotely operated by the Panasonic image app from a smart phone, which might be a consideration if her condition worsens (apologies for being blunt!)

Arguably the quality would be better with the TZ100 and then by using the Extra Optical Zoom if she really requires extra reach; I speak form having the FZ1000 at one point, and also the smaller sensor FZ200. FZ200 had a 600mm lens but did have a smaller sensor - and during a time I actually had both I did a quick companions and using the FZ1000 with extra optical zoom/digitial zooms feature yielded better quality images. And, you’ve still got the far superior 1 inch sensor to maximize when you don’t need the extra zoom..

Personally recommend this, I do know that on the occasion you have more demanding situation -albeit anything but ‘Florida quality sun’ the limits of the small sensor in the TZ80 will quickly become apparent.

ok well we ended up getting a TZ80 one came up on facebook locally and was £180 with case and 64gb card in it all original box etc too and only a couple of months old.
it was in immaculate condition so worth a punt so to speak. she seems happy with it and in fairness she never prints anything bigger than 7x5.
i do appreciate the advice given on this thread and if i had had the extra couple of hundred it would have been a serious contender but as it was the TZ80 new was going to be stretching my budget to its limits.
the only good thing for me is i now have her old camera and lens D7000 & nikon 70-300vr and my old D7000 and a couple of lenses which i will be getting rid of soon i think in preparation for a new cam for me :) .

I've got a TZ80 which I keep in my bag/pocket even when I have my other camera with me. It's a nice wee camera - takes good pics.

I love my TZ100 the 250mm Leica lens can be extended to 500mm with very little loss of quality needs to be on a tripod though...:pint:
