Hi fellow photogs! I have recently photographed the dress rehearsal for a local theater group. All of the photos were given to the theater. These consisted of lobby portraits, individual and group photos of the cast. I know they have used some photos for flyers, posters and such in the past, so I am sure that the theater has photo releases with the individual cast members. They are willing be pay me for ongoing services and have already broached the idea of a year long relationship.

I am more of a hobbiest rater than a for profit photographer. My question is what kind of contract/leagl coverage should I be concernd about.

As I said earlier, I gave the photos from the first shoot to the theater but, now I have been asked by individaul cast members about selling them individual photos for their use (portfolios and such.)

Again, what kind of legal coverage should I be looking for?

The only thing that might need to be sorted out is what was agreed between you and the group for the original session. If there was no formal agreement about taking the original pictures, then it is up to you what you charge someone for copies.

Photo releases are irrelevant in the UK unless an organisation wants proof that a picture to be used for advertising was made with the consent of the subject(s).

If children are involved, it may be sensible to get a release signed by the parent or guardian agreeing to your taking the pictures and what they may be used for.
