Combining images in CS5

Hey I wonder if any of you guys could help me please or point me in the right direction. I've spent the last few hours trolling through google and youtube but I cant seem to find what I'm after, probably because I don't know if the word I'm looking for is combine, stack, merge, etc.

Basically I've got 3 different photographs of a kid in 3 different positions on a sofa, and I'm trying to put them all together so they just appear as one image. I've tried dragging the images on top of each other and messing about with the blend modes but I'm getting some very strange ghostly looking effects, even though I've kept the opacity up at 100%.

Any pointers on where I'm going wrong would be greatly appreciated
 
Copy and paste onto separate layers then just mask out the bits you don't need, keep the blend mode set to normal :thumbs:
 
Yep... layers and layer masks. Or simply erasing the bits you don't want but this really limits your options and cannot be recommended.

Google multiplicity Photoshop for loads of tutorials.
