I have just ordered a book from amazon dot com, this book The Opinionated Knitter by Elizabeth Zimmermann and it has cost me $30 plus $8.98 postage, if ordered this book from the co dot uk company the book would cost me £41 or £37 used in the marketplace, I may have to wait a while to get the book delivered here but for my reckoning I am getting it about half the price of the UK shop! Is it me?? :cuckoo:

that's a thought, mind you, they had it in stocl yesterday but not today, only in the marketplace, so some mug has paid £41 for it!

oooher....well it will be a lesson to me if I have to pay the tax....I still don't think it will bring it up to the uk price anyway.....now I feel a bit sick lol

oh...that's ok then, still a bargain..I'll let you know when it gets here :)

Well if the book was $30, its below the import duty threshold (anything below £18 you can import for free - hence why a lot of play.com's items are 17.99 or less).

So you should have managed to get it for less than half price :)

I didn't think .com would sell to the UK, just goes to show I've been wasting my money too :(

Umm. I think books are tax free anyway.

I already have this item in my watched list...lol....looks like it will be about the same as I paid from Amazon, but thank you :) I looked for this book all over the place before I placed my order...

I tried to order from .com.... no joy! Wouldn't let me register!

Did you access .com THROUGH .co.uk? Apparently if you "reach through" it won't accept your order.... but, if you access .com directly it seems to be more subservient! (That's how Marianne just explained it to me) ;) [She's also confident that you can use your .co.uk account on the .com site ....phew!]

Another letter Miss Jones?

Didn't work either way for me - unless just books are ok. I tried to buy a pen for my Graphire4 Tablet. Same price in £ as it is in $!

My book arrived this morning, not a blemish as it was packed perfectly! :^) I've done my chores so I can look at it now! :)

hehehe. Nice one, Marianne.

EOS_JD - not everything can be ordered from Amazon.com to an overseas address. Books, DVDs, CDs are ok, but not electronics, kitchen stuff, watches. Be careful when ordering DVDs and CDs cause anything above £18 in value will be taxed and have a handling fee applied by Parcel Force or whoever that is delivering it. The handling fee can be from £7 to £12, even if the tax is only £2 or £3!!.

thanks for the info. looks like i'll just have to pay the £28!

I have an apo address (like having an american address in another country) and I can't even get electronics delivered to me. I have to have it shipped to my Mom and then she ships it through. A right pain it is but worth it for the savings.

ive bought books from amazon.com too, cheap, fast and errrr....american

...yeah, its cheaper because it full of spelling mistakes. . ;)

cheeky monkey! :nono:

....there are no spelling mistakes in my book that I can see....I suppose you are referring to 'colour' and 'color' that sort of thing? I must admit I am proud to put a 'u' in colour but when it's missing it doesn't offend me. Elizabeth Zimmerman was born in the UK so she almost ours and 'the opinionated knitter' is a very good read and the patterns are very clever which is the main reason I ordered it. EZ is a legend amongst knitters the whole world over and I have only just discovered her

I knew you were joking...the internet can't see the tongue in cheek at times can it? ;)

Not only spelling mistakes but LOTS of hot air too...

In my part of the world we fork out anything fromm 100 -150 bucks for a decent imported mags

Bought 1 american mag once and promised myself never again
