Just been looking to do my first try at colour developing. I'm fine B&W film and want to try this. I've got a stack of poundland film ready to develop.

Can anyone recommend a set of chemicals for a first timer?

I have a temperature control set for all the chemicals so I hopefully can take some of the possible screw ups out [emoji1]

I think Tetanal c41 kits are probably the best bet as they cut out a step by using bleach and fix in one mix, blizzard it's called. I'm currently using the Fuji hunt kit but i will be going back to Tetanal when i finish this lot off.

The Compard/Rollei Digibase C41 Kit is also very easy to use, it comes already prepared in 3 soft-bottles and allows to develop at low temps (easier to maintain constant), i.e. I've used it at 20ºC and also at 25ºC.

Wasn't long ago I was in the same boat as you. I used the Tetanal C41 kit for my first colour. Worked like a charm and was easy enough to use.

How long do you dev for at 30 degrees Asha and do you need to extend the times for the other elements as well or do you stick to the published ones. I've been having problems getting to and sticking at 38 degrees and was wondering whether a longer cooler dev time would work.

Hi Andy, take a look at the Tetenal C41 kit instruction booklet that comes with the kit.

"Alternative development at 86 farhenheit"

First four films developed require 8 mins dev, 6 mins blix, 6 mins rinse, 1 min stab.

Does your kit not state the alternative times for the lower temperature?

Well, no because I currently don't have a Tetanal kit I'm waiting to finish the Fuji Hunt pack then I'm going back to tetanal. But thanks for that, it was what I supposed.

Is there a reason to not use the Fuji Hunt kit other than it having separate bleach and fix steps? I got one a few years ago and managed two whole 35mm rolls before photography took a back seat and the chemicals duly went off (well, developer part C is now a very dark colour). I'm planning on getting another for use with a Jobo CPE-2, and am wondering how the other options compare. (Mixing up the Fuji chemicals into 1L working solutions is no problem.)
